CROCHET HEART COASTERS AND SOME PAPER CRAFTING!

1So one productive morning I was in my happy place, crocheting, watching my favorite youtube podcasters and sipping my very large mug of coffee. Every time I set my mug down on my table I would hear a loud knock. This was beginning to irritate me. I stopped what I was doing and thought, "I need to grab a coaster." I came to the shocking realization that I don't have a single coaster in my home. I am a crocheter! Why do I NOT have any coasters. Pretty, colorful, soft, precious, fun array of coasters. This will not do. It was time for some Pinterest inspiration.

I found these little cuties while browsing thru Pinterest. This happens quite often, I must say. I found these on Camilla's blog crochetmillan. She has some very cute patterns to play with. Her heart coasters caught my eye. So I grabbed my cotton yarn and hook and started hookin'. I couldn't stop. I kept on making these little cuties in different colors. I now have stacks of coasters to choose from or gift. I even dug out some cardstock and patterned paper from the darkest, deepest corner of my closet, (shamefully neglected for a long time, but now I am showing my paper stacks some love) to make matching gift boxes.

The first one I made was the perfect size for a trivet for your teapot, but I wanted them a little smaller for my cups to sit on. Here are the changes I made. I used "I Love This Cotton" from Hobby Lobby and hook size F / 3.75mm.  I omitted the last increase round and made round 4 my final round with changes to the shell stitch amounts. In round 4, I made 5 dc for the shell stitch instead of the 8 called for in the pattern and I only made 2 sc in the ch 2 space.  Now you can finish off and voila! My coasters measure 4 1/2" wide.

Here are a few picks of my handmade boxes. Not too shabby for a newby like myself.
