The Hungry Caterpillar Pattern - Amigurumi

How cute is this little guy? Let's be honest. I don't usually think bugs are cute except for the occasional butterfly and ladybugs. Certainly not caterpillars, but when my son's class read "The Hungry Caterpillar" last year and studied all about the life cycle of a butterfly, I had to make one for him. I took a look at my yarn stash and found that I had the perfect colors for this little critter. I didn't want to make a lot of separate sections to sew together (I hate sewing parts together) because I'm not very good at it. So I made it in one piece and worked from the end of the tail on to the head. I'm a little backwards that way. I don't know exactly how much yarn I used because I used what I already had. Some of the skeins were partially used. I do know however that one skein of each color is more than enough. You might have enough to make two little caterpillars.

This is my first ever attempt at writing my own pattern so I will try my best to not make it very clear and understandable.

Materials:

Hooks: I - 9/5.5mm, H - 8/5mm
1  skein  Red Heart Super Saver-  Paddy Green
1  skein  I Love This Yarn- Limelight
1  skein  Red Heart Super Saver- Cherry Red
Small amount of  Red Heart Super Saver- Monet
Small amount of  Red Heart with Love- Chocolate
Small amount of Red Heart Super Saver- Bright Yellow (for eyes)
Very small amount of Red Heart Super Saver- Hunter Green (for mouth)

Stitch Marker
Polyfill stuffing
Yarn needle
Gauge is not needed. Finished project is approximately 23 inches long,  6.5 inches tall.

Stitches used: (US terms)

ML - magic loop
sc - single crochet
sl - slip stitch
hdc - half double crochet
dc - double crochet
invdec - invisible decrease
st - stitch

Special Stitch Meaning:

invdec - Insert hook into front loops only int the next two stitches, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through final 2 loops on the hook. Counts as 1 sc.

All parts of the caterpillar are worked in the round. Stitch marker is important to keep track. I always place my marker in the last stitch of the round.  Increase stitches or invdec stitches will always end on last stitch of the round. Do not over stuff each body segment. I aimed to just place the filling towards the outer edges of the segments and add enough to fill out to smooth rounds.

Pattern: *Remember to place your stitch marker in last stitch of each round*
