Crochet Dragon Scale Fingerless Gloves - Updated!

Colorway: Stained Glass
Hello all! I have gotten a lot of very positive feedback on my pattern and that makes me so incredibly happy. My original pattern was based on my wrist size which is pretty small. So I thought a few changes would give a better fit. I also thought a foundation sc and the fp bp dc on the bottom would give better stretch. It certainly makes it easier to pull them on. Download pattern here.

Materials: One skein Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable Yarn 100% acrylic (14 wpi) or similar fingering weight yarn.

Hook(s): G/4mm, F/3.75mm (for more snug fit around fingers if desired)

Dragon Scale Messy Bun Beanie

I jumped on the Messy Mom Bun Beanie bandwagon. I have to say first that I don't normally, more like hardly ever make hats for the simple fact that no matter how often I measure and follow patterns exactly, something goes wrong in the universe. It doesn't fit! Well, it is either too short, too long, too wide, or just too small. So I don't make them. A real bummer since I see so many cute hats I want to make. Now after all that spiel...I made one for a friend of mine because she seemed really excited about them. I followed Sarah from Repeat Crafter Me's pattern Crochet Mommy and Me Messy Bun Hats.  As soon as I posted my finished beanie,

I was contacted to make one to match her Dragon Scale Fingerless Gloves I made her. Challenge accepted! Here is how I modified Sarah's pattern. Keep in mind that I'm not very experienced with making hats so I just kinda made it work. That's the beauty of crochet don't you think?

Dragon Scale Messy Bun Beanie

Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable yarn in the color Echo
Hook: H/5mm
Hair elastic

24 sc around hair elastic, then follow Sarah's pattern all the way through round 8 adding.
Rnd 9:  Begin dragon scale foundation. If you are not sure how to do this stitch, you can find great tutorials online. Sl st over into to begin working in cluster v-stitch spaces. Ch 3, dc in same space. Ch 2, dc in next cluster v-stitch space ch 2.  2 dc in next cluster v-stitch space ch 2. dc in next cluster v-stitch space. Continue around and end with ch 2.  Sl st to top of ch 3 to join.  NOTE: You will have two pairs of dc's next to each other. This is where you're just going to "make it work" at the end of rnd 10.

Rnd 10:  Ch 3 (counts as first dc) 4 dc around first dc post. Ch 1 turn work counter-clockwise and work 5 dc up along second dc post. Sl st to top of next dc. 5 dc around first dc post, ch 1, 5 dc up along second dc post. Sl st to top of next dc. Continue to end of round. Insert hook through top corner of first dragon scale and sl st in ch 2 space of previous round. (14 dragon scales made)

Rnd 11:  Ch 3, dc in same stitch, ch 2.  2 dc in stitch between dragon scales.  dc in dragon scale center. ch 2. 2 dc in stitch between dragon scales. Continue around. End with ch 2 and sl st to join.

Continue adding rounds following rounds 10 and 11 until desired length.

Brim: go down a hook size if you want more snug fit.

Ch 3, 2 dc in same stitch. 3 dc in stitch between scales. (NO CH 1 throughout) 3 dc in scale center and repeat around. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.

Ch 3, Front post dc around next dc. Back post dc around next dc. Continue to alternate fp bp dc around. Sl to to join.

Ch 3. Front post dc around next front post dc. Back post dc around next back post dc. Continue to alternate fp bp dc around. Sl to to join.

Continue until you have desired length and finish.

*The beanie pitured on the bottom is the same pattern but without the bun opening. To do this, I just made 24 dc in the magic circle.

I hope I didn't confuse anyone and let me know if you have made my version of beanie and what you think. I love input.

Happy Crocheting!!
